2025/02/23 - FIM Superbike World Championship 2025: Australian Round / Sunday's Superpole Race & Race 2

Lots of effort for less rewards

Finising three times in P12 at the World Championship’s opening round at Phillip Island did not meet Dominique Aegerter's expectations after a promising start to the weekend with a fifth place on Friday morning.

Race day two of the new season at magnificent Phillip Island was once again dominated by glorious late summer weather. To the delight of all the riders, the temperatures were less hot than on Saturday afternoon.

In Superpole Race shortly after midday, Dominique Aegerter failed to complete the sprint distance over ten laps. It was only in the final phase that the 34-year-old from Bern was able to pick up some speed and fight for eighth place in the group. In the second main race, Aegerter again had to start from 15th on the grid, and the Yamaha rider was unable to make up more than three positions. By then there was already a gap to the group in front of him.

There is now a five-week break until the next FIM Superbike World Championship event. Then it's back to the rollercoaster of Portimao.

«I think we could have achieved a bit more than eleventh place in Superpole Race. But the distance with only ten laps is very short to get further up the field. In the second race in the afternoon, I managed a few great passes, and I gave my 100 percent, even if the result does not show it. It is a bit disappointing to ride your heart out and end up there. We certainly need to improve in terms of consistency and results. The different conditions and the changing wind directions did not exactly help. Again and again, we had to adjust the bike a bit, just as the gear ratio, but also the electronic settings. I hope that we will be in a better position right from the start next time and that we can achieve the results we are aiming for. A big thank you to the team, because they have always tried and given everything to make it easier for me out there on track. But the conclusion of the weekend is that we still have work to do.»
