2024/08/04 - CIV Misano / Sunday - Weekend Report

Dominique Aegerter: «It was great fun»

The 33-year-old Swiss rider used a wildcard entry at the Italian championship in Misano last weekend as training and preparation for the upcoming Superbike World Championship round in Portimao.

For Dominique Aegerter, the national championship round at the Misano World Circuit not far from the Adriatic coast was a welcome opportunity to shorten the break until the next FIM Superbike World Championship event. It didn't take Aegerter long to accept Yamaha Italia's invitation and from the organizers' point of view, the rider from Rohrbach, supported by his GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team, was an additional attraction. The highlight of the weekend’s schedule was the first race late Saturday evening, which was run under floodlights. The Yamaha rider finished in fourth place. In the second race on Sunday, Aegerter was on course for victory until the last lap.

«First, I would like to thank Yamaha Italy and my team for giving me this chance to race this weekend in Italian championship in Misano. My race bike, however, was very different from what I am used to in WorldSBK, starting with the electronics, the tyres and the settings. Nevertheless, it was a great practice for me and also a good preparation for Portimao, which is coming up next, also in view of the expected heat in Portugal. I finished qualifying in second place, just behind Michele Pirro. However, the night race on Saturday evening was something very special, even if the visibility conditions were a bit critical. But it was definitely an experience I will not forget in a hurry. On Sunday, I led the race for 15 laps before Alessandro Delbianco passed me on the last lap. Nevertheless, it was nice to finish in second place, enjoying the podium. The weekend was definitely a lot of fun. Now I am going to rest for a few days and set my focus on Portimao at the same time.»
