2024/10/12 - FIM Superbike World Championship 2024: Estoril Round / Saturday's Superpole & Race 1

Two points scored in comeback race !!

Dominique Aegerter gritted his teeth on Saturday and finished 14th in his first race after an almost two-month injury break despite severe pain.

On Saturday at the second-last stop of this year’s FIM Superbike World Championship at the Circuito do Estoril not far from Lisbon, the weather was initially only a little bit friendlier than on the previous day. A cloudy sky and recurring raindrops were an unpleasant spoilsport that had to be ignored in Free Practice Three and in Superpole too.

Given his physical condition, it was hardly surprising that Dominique Aegerter was unable to finish higher than 18th in Superpole on a wet track. Starting from the sixth row, however, the Swiss rider delivered a solid performance in the afternoon in the first main race of the weekend in dry conditions. Although he also benefited from the retirements of some of his rivals, the fact that he was able to bring the powerful Yamaha Superbike home in 14th place after 21 laps despite his handicap cannot be overestimated.

On Sunday, Superpole Race and the second main race, also over 21 laps, are on the program. The action can be followed live on «ServusTV Online» and the official WorldSBK website. The Austrian broadcaster ServusTV has scheduled a recording in its television program from 16:00 CEST.

Grid position 18 / Race 1: P14

«Today, I scored two points in the race. I am happy about that, because that was a goal I wanted to achieve. I had a lot of pain in my shoulder on the last few laps and I did not have the strength. Nevertheless, I persevered. The weather this morning in FP3 and in Superpole was not ideal, nor was 18th place on the grid, but it is always very difficult to ride in such conditions. After the exhausting race, I need a good rest now. I hope that I feel better tomorrow morning and not worse. Finally, I wish my team-mate Remy Gardner all the best for a speedy recovery. It is never nice when a rider gets injured.
