For 34-year-old Dominique Aegerter, an unlucky 2024 FIM Superbike World Championship comes to an end this weekend at southern Spain’s Circuito de Jerez.

At the beginning of the year, Dominique Aegerter missed the important test rides in preparation for his second season with his Italian GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team in the premier class of the championship with production-based race bikes. Without any significant experience with the new material, he started the season in Australia at the end of February, which then took a very mixed course. At the end of August, Aegerter suffered a serious setback in a training accident that put him out of action for two months.

The Yamaha rider returned to racing last weekend and performed very bravely. At the last race weekend of the year in Jerez de la Frontera, Aegerter wants to achieve a conciliatory conclusion for himself, as the common goals with his team were not achieved, mainly due to the health circumstances.

The season’s finale of the Superbike World Championship can be seen on television this weekend: Eurosport 2 reports live on Saturday from 13:45 and shows a recording on Sunday from 17:00 CEST. ServusTV will start with a recording at 14:45 CEST on both days. Live broadcasts will also be available on the digital platforms «ServusTV Online» or in the paid live stream on the official WorldSBK website.

«I am really looking forward to Jerez because I have very good memories of last year with two podium finishes. I also like the track, and I like Jerez in general. Unfortunately, I was not able to take part in the tests at the start of the season because I came down with a virus. But that is history meanwhile. In the days after Estoril, I tried to recover as well as possible. This mainly concerned my shoulder, where I still lack muscles. Last weekend was very physically demanding after two months without riding a Superbike. On Monday I was very tired and felt exhausted. That is why my plan for Tuesday and Wednesday was to train the muscles in the shoulder area to gain more mass and also to have more strength for the coming weekend. Hopefully the pain in my shoulder and ribs will also subside. I want to finish the season with a good weekend and some decent results. That is my main goal for Jerez.»
