2026/10/30 - FIM Supersport World Championship 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣7️⃣: Together with Triumph and PTR Racing

Dominique Aegerter joins Triumph and PTR Racing for the upcoming season

For Dominique Aegerter, a difficult year is coming to an end, with the welcome news that he will continue to race at highest-level next year. The 36-year-old Swiss rider has signed a contract for 2027 with Simon Buckmaster’s British based team, for which he will ride the brand-new Triumph Street Triple 798 RS.

Now that the ink on the contract has dried, Dominique Aegerter can head into the winter break with a sense of relief. This year, his return to Supersport World Championship proved to be more difficult than expected. As a two-time world champion in this category back in 2021 and 2022, Aegerter fell short of expectations. He finished the championship in a disappointing 15th place overall, with just one podium finish in the final race at Jerez.

The ambitious Dominique Aegerter and his closer environment, led by his brother Kevin, who has been managing his career for several years meanwhile, started looking for alternatives for the future early on, after it became clear during the summer months that the collaboration with this year’s team would come to an end.

With Simon Buckmaster’s team PTR Triumph Racing, Aegerter has finally found what he was looking for. Buckmaster is a veteran of the WorldSBK paddock. In addition, over the past three years, Buckmaster and his experienced team have played a key role in developing Triumph’s Supersport bike, the Street Triple 765 RS, into an extremely competitive package. However, this spec used until now is being replaced by the 798 RS from next year on, which has a slightly larger displacement. Buckmaster’s team has also refined it to make it race-ready.

PTR Triumph Racing can once again count on the support and close cooperation of the in Hinkley, Leicestershire, based factory next year. With the new package and his new surroundings, Aegerter aims to get back on the road to success and repay the trust placed in him by the British manufacturer and team manager Buckmaster by shining with as many standout performances as possible.

The 2027 FIM Supersport World Championship will kick off, as is tradition, in Australia at Phillip Island. The event is scheduled for the second-last weekend in February. The calendar once again features twelve race weekends, with the season finale now taking place in late October in Shanghai, China.

#77 Dominique AEGERTER (PTR Triumph Racing, Triumph Street Triple 798 RS)

«I’m truly relieved to have secured my future to continue in top-level racing for 2027. I’m excited to announce that I’ve signed with the PTR Triumph Racing team, led by Simon Buckmaster, and will be competing for victories and points next year aboard a Triumph Supersport machine. So, I’m very happy to continue my career in Supersport World Championship with a professional team. I’ve known Simon Buckmaster for a long time in this paddock, and we’ve been in touch several times, even when he was still competing in this series with other manufacturers. I’m really looking forward to next season, but even more so to our first test, where I’ll get to know the team and the Triumph. It was clearly to see that Simon’s team and I, at least towards the end of last season, have achieved great results. Plus, they have an excellent overall package, so I hope it will meet my needs.»

«However, before we find out how the collaboration and adaptation to the new package will work out, I’ll try to give it my all this winter in every possible training session, whether it’s physical training or practicing by riding a wide variety of motorcycles. My main goal is to maintain, or even to improve, my physical fitness at a high level and to stay mentally strong, especially since 2026 was a difficult year for me. I can’t wait to work with Triumph and Simon’s team. But first of all, I’d like to thank Triumph and Simon for their trust in me, as well as all my sponsors, supporters, and fans who have helped me continue racing and have always kept me motivated. That helps me a lot. So, a big thank you to everyone. See you again in 2027, I’m looking forward to it!»

Simon BUCKMASTER (PTR Triumph Racing, Team Manager)

«It’s great news for us to announce that Dominique Aegerter has signed with PTR Triumph Racing for 2027, as we’ll continue as a Triumph-supported team with the new Street Triple 798 RS. At the start of the new season, we’ll conduct a comparison test with our current race-winning bike to ensure we have the best possible chance of success with a competitive package when the season kicks off in Australia.  As we know, Dominique is one of the most successful riders in Supersport World Championship and had regained his high level of performance toward the end of last season. We’re therefore looking forward to building on that momentum and aim to take that final step to compete for the WorldSSP title.  We know we have the staff; we know we have the team and the environment, and now, with Dominique, we also have the right rider. So, it’s up to us, as always, to work together as a great team to make this a reality in 2027.»
